BR_Brandmark_tm_desc_vert_blkWhat’s the Bandit Run?

The Bandit Run was the brainchild of David Hersey and Dave Hall, who wanted to commemorate the 30-year anniversary of the classic film Smokey and the Bandit.  Restore a Muscle Car came up with the idea when Hershey purchased his restored 1977 Pontiac Trans Am from him in 2006. The Bandit Run is a reenactment of the journey portrayed in Smokey and the Bandit. The reenactment first took place on May 15, 2007, and has become an annual event.  Following the same route that the characters Bo “Bandit” Darville (Burt Reynolds) and Cledus “Snowman” Snow (Jerry Reed) made in the 1977 movie, a group of about 30 Trans Ams started out in Texarkana in 2007. There, they had a send off at the Classic Car Museum.

Why build an app for this year’s Bandit Run?

Dave Hall with Restore a Muscle Car approached Agilx with the idea for an app that would allow “Runners” to communicate, generate and consume content while on the run which is a multi-day event with activities and stops along the way. In prior years of the Bandit Run everyone would post pics, updates and videos on social media but it wasn’t solely connected to the event. The app was developed to provide an inclusive experience for participants of the run and a centralized content delivery and communication tool for the creators of the run.newsfeedmedium

What does the app do?

The Bandit Run Mobile app works on both iOS and Android devices allowing participants of the event to post comments, photos and videos to the news feed. Participants can follow other runners in the app, lookup and connect with another runner they just met and view route information throughout the trip. Dave and his team also have the ability to push real-time notifications through the app to update runners about waypoint changes, events and other activity going on so everyone can stay connected.

Can I follow follow the Bandit Run in the app even if I’m not participating this year?

Absolutely! Non-registered users of the event can download the app, signup and see a read only news feed of all the cool content posted by the runners this year.
