The first annual software builders challenge was a huge success!

The day started off with Empire Fence presenting a real world challenge which focused on building a web based residential fence estimating application. The challenge was designed with loose guidelines allowing participants to use creativity and problem solving to build their application. Participants were given 4.5hrs to develop their version of the fence estimating application.   That afternoon the judging panel (assembled from sponsors of the competition) reviewed each teams submission and scored them based on approach, workflow and pragmatism. The results were 1st place going to Timothy Miller and David Dovel. Coming in second were Tyler Zubke and Sourabh Chakraborty and third place went to Michael Hartling.

A large thanks goes out to all the sponsors that supported this event.

Matt Warner and Justin Hernandez from Empire Fence provided the first place prize and also worked with us to develop the context of the challenge.  Thanks guys!

Thanks to Stephen Frayser, Jackie Swanson and Elizabeth Loeck from the Nebraska Technology Park for making this event possible.

Thanks to Rod Armstrong with the AIM Institute and Dan Hoffman from Invest Nebraska for providing some much needed guidance.

Gratitude goes to Layne Sup and Eric Traphagan from Binary.net for providing the virtual servers to host the participants creations.
